Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka, on September 18, 2026, notified the Notaries (Karnataka Amendment) Act, 2025, to amend the Notaries Act, 1952.

The following has been stated: -

•The amendment inserts Section 3A into the Notaries Act, 1952, requiring State Governments to provide reservation in the appointment of notaries.

•Reservation will be provided for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

•Horizontal reservation will also be provided to women and physically challenged persons, as prescribed by the State Government.

•If eligible candidates from the reserved categories are unavailable, the posts may be filled by candidates from the General Category.

It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
